Consumers claim in a new class action lawsuit that WellNX Life Sciences falsely advertised SlimQuick weight loss supplements as safe and effective.

Plaintiffs Maria Nelson and Michelle Garza filed a class action complaint against Platinum USA Distribution, WellNX Life Sciences and WellNX Life Sciences DR on February 4 in California federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.

According to the class action lawsuit, WellNX Life Sciences manufactures, markets, distributes and sells SlimQuick weight loss supplements, including Regular Strength, Extra Strength, Pure Keto and Drink Mixes.

The plaintiffs accused the company of SlimQuick market with false efficacy claims specifically, saying the product has a miraculous “fat burning” ingredient that “increases metabolism,” “reduces appetite” and “reduces excess water”.

The company also falsely claims that SlimQuick is “made with safe and natural ingredients” and is “harmless,” the plaintiffs claim.

SlimQuick weight loss supplements cause liver injury, class action alleges

The plaintiffs allege the company’s claims are misleading because none of the ingredients in SlimQuick, individually or in combination, are safe and effective in increasing weight loss, burning calories or fat oxidation.

In addition, they stated that the company’s representation that SlimQuick “is made from safe and natural ingredients” and “does no harm to our body” is false, because SlimQuick contains dangerous amounts of green tea extract, which can cause liver injury and liver failure.

The plaintiffs alleges the company’s marketing and advertising of SlimQuick is intended to, and does, deceive consumers into believing that the product can effectively increase weight loss, metabolism and reduce appetite.

They allege the company engaged in a consistent, long-term campaign to fraudulently market SlimQuick as a safe and effective weight loss supplement.

The plaintiffs seek to represent who bought SlimQuick in California. They sued for violations of the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the Unfair Competition Law and the False Advertising Law. They are seeking class action certification, damages of at least $5 million, costs, expenses and a jury trial.
