History, art, poetry and Chautauqua lectures, health workshops and a Meals on Wheels fundraiser are among the events in April at the Carson City Senior Center.

Volunteers wanted: Bingo & Tech Help

The Carson City Senior Center is seeking talented volunteers for two specific roles. Technical assistance is a volunteer-run service teaching others how to use a smartphone, basic computer applications, navigate the web, email, and other basic technology skills.

Bingo week, the bi-monthly fundraiser for Meals on Wheels, is seeking volunteers to form the Bingo Fundraiser Committee to manage all aspects of the fundraiser, including games, payments, volunteer recruitment and management, food, setup, and cleanup. Jewelry Sale Fundraiser for Meals on Wheels

The Carson City Senior Center will have its annual Jewelry Sale on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1, from 9-2pm. New and used jewelry, bags, wallets, pocket watches, belts, and more for sale. All proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels Carson City. The event will be in the main lobby of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Call the Senior Center for more information (775) 883-0703.

Mat Pilates Class for Seniors – Starts April 7th

Improve your flexibility, strength, and balance with instructor Debbie Klee in a new Mat Pilates Class every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Joshua Room (east end). Giants of the Sierra: Living History

The history of the Eastern Sierra is made up of people whose vision, labor, and generosity left the region stronger than they found it, and this program brings together three such figures: Norman Biltz, Duane Bliss, and Ken Lloyd. Their paths were different, but each carved a legacy of building, stewarding, and giving. Hard Times … An Extraordinary Life: Tales from the Manzanar Internment Camp

Using extensive research and rarely seen images, historians David & Gayle Woodruff delve into the ‘human heart’ of the Manzanar Internment Camp, revealing some of the little-known stories of Japanese Americans whose lives were upended and rebuilt behind the barbed wire horizon. These tales of true history remind us that Manzanar was more than just a wartime policy — it was a testament to human resilience, dignity, and a quiet, invincible hope. Senior Bus Trip to the Museum

Paid for by funding from SB 118 from 84. Legislative session, we are chartering a bus to visit both the National Automobile Museum and the Nevada Museum of Art, with a break for lunch in between on Thursday, May 7, at 9:00 am at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. A conversation with Amy Smith & June Saraceno for National Poetry Month

A lively conversation with the two poets is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 12:30 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Joshua Room (east end). Amy Smith has published one poetry collection, Composting the Moon, and recently completed a second, unpublished manuscript of poetry. June Sylvester Saraceno is the author of the novel Feral, North Carolina, 1965, and three poetry collections—The Girl from Yesterday, of Dirt and Tar, and Altars of Ordinary Light. The event is free. Kim Harris as Lizzie Borden

A Chautauqua Performance of Lizzie Borden by Kim Harris on Tuesday, April 21 at 14:00 at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Nevada Room (west end). Perhaps one of the most famous murders of the 19th Century was that of Andrew and Abby Borden. Andrew’s daughter Lizzie was arrested and stood trial for murder, but it was ultimately proved. However, public opinion remained that he was guilty and no other suspect was ever named. For the rest of the day, Lizzie lived with the stigma of someone who had “got away with murder”. Now, Lizzie Borden is sharing her story and why she could not be found guilty of this heinous crime. Donations are appreciated to support the event and fund our speakers. RSVP is not required. New Chair Yoga Class with Christine

Come and join Christine Garner for a new Chair Yoga class on Thursdays, 11:45-12:45 pm at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Nevada Room (west end).
