9 Easy Dessert Recipes That Will Make Everyone Think You’ve Been Making It For Years

Just 5 years ago, Janelle Nichole was daunted by the prospect of baking. But thanks to the friends who taught him how to make cinnamon rolls from scratchJanelle realized that baking doesn’t have to be intimidating—and can actually be fun.

In the time since she first conquered the sweet roll recipe, Allrecipes Allstar Janelle has “put in the reps,” baking her way through many sweet and savory bakes here on Allrecipes, and finally, testing and perfecting herself. Janelle is so comfortable in the kitchen that she now posts tip videos on social media every day. (You can follow the action at @janellenichole_baker.)

In an effort to help us all discover the joy of making desserts as much as we do in enjoying them, we asked Janelle to share 10 easy dessert recipes that she has been keeping to herself. My recipe collection This beginner-friendly option won’t disappoint, Janelle vows.

Almond Croissant Ooey Gooey Butter Cake

We’re kicking things off with a boxed cake mix creation dreamed up by Janelle herself, who describes this as “the ultimate almond croissant and gooey butter cake mashup.” Because this is basically a boxed cake mix creation that pays homage to St. Patrick’s signature dessert. Louis, it’s a great “training wheels” recipe for new bakers.

Another Allstar, Yoly said this was “delicious!” Because it tastes best warm, if you don’t feel it after baking, Yoly recommends slicing your pieces for 15 seconds “to get that ooey gooey cream cheese layer back.”

Pound cake is a basic baking recipe that shows how simple ingredients – butter, sugar, flour, and eggs – can turn into something spectacular. For this bundt pan twist, Allrecipes member LVJOANNE recommends inviting sour cream to the party for a light yet dense, rich, and moist result.

“It’s great for brunch, or dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve with berries for dinner,” says LVJOANNE. Home cook Eugene Danker says, “This is one of my favorite pound cake recipes. I also sometimes add peaches and pecans or apples and walnuts. I coat the pan with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon to add a little extra flavor.”

Speaking of coating the pan, Janelle swears by generously covering the nooks and crannies with DIY baking paste made from equal parts flour, shortening, and vegetable oil to ensure the cake slides right out.

Allrecipes member Anne says, “I’ve never baked before in my life. The closest I’ve come has been making a cake out of a box. I’ve made this pie three times, and all three times have been huge successes! This recipe is easy enough for a first-timer, and has great texture, flavor, and presentation. It’s an overall crowd-pleaser!”

Elizabeth agrees, adding, “It’s always a hit, even with non-pumpkin lovers.” For a single serving treat that will end all the spats over who gets the biggest slice, consider using equal layers of fillings inside mini graham cracker pie crusts.

Many carrot cakes call for baking, frosting, and stacking spice cake layers. But this, one of our top-rated carrot cake recipes, is designed to fill a 9×13-inch pan for ease of execution, decoration, and slicing. Don’t worry, this still makes a moist, light, fluffy, and warm flavored cake, complete with a layer of silky cream cheese frosting for good measure.

It’s so delicious that member Crystal S said, “My family is flying around the kitchen when I’m preparing the ingredients to make this cake.” Applauding this carrot cake recipe with more than 6,000 five-star ratings, Allrecipes member MK MOM admitted, “I really don’t want to do anything to change this. But, I have two persnickety children who really hate nuts. So instead of adding pecans to the cake, I added lots of big chunky ones to the icing and everyone was happy!”

Continuing with the mash-up dessert theme, folks go nuts when we bring this pecan pie-meets-salted-caramel candy treat to gatherings. It all starts with a buttery shortbread crust. Then comes a soft caramel layer with just the right amount of chopped pecans.

This caramel pecan pie bar has a buttery crust, a soft caramel layer infused with salty pecans, and a shower of flaky sea salt. There is a sneaky seminar hidden in this recipe: You are only 16 minutes away from mastering how to make homemade caramel. The home baker Simao says, “It turned out beautifully! Great mouthfeel, perfectly crumbly-but-firm base, and the caramel was both easy to make and delicious to eat.”

Cinnamon Swirl Bundt Coffee Cake

The snooze button will lose its appeal when you have a slice of this coffee cake (with a layer of cinnamon-sugar hidden in the middle!) Awaiting you. Ruth said a friend shared this formula with her years ago, and she was kind enough to ask us about it on Allrecipes.

The key ingredient is sour cream, which makes the crumb soft and moist. Mia Macey recreated this in her own kitchen, and “didn’t change a thing”. It is now a weekly family dinner, which she eats with caramel ice cream. Ready to mix things up? Try brown sugar instead of white sugar in the filling, swap in walnuts for pecans, and top this with a drizzle of powdered sugar icing, if you like.
